As we began the new year, the PSHE focus for all year groups was ‘Dreams and Goals’. Children in Key Stage 2 explored what this theme meant to them by discussing their future aspirations, the skills they would like to develop, and what their ideal world might look like.
Over the past few weeks, pupils have been expressing their ideas through poetry as part of an entry to the Young Writers poetry competition. This opportunity inspired all of the children, as they realised they could become published authors. They were also motivated by the exciting prizes on offer, including £1,000 for the school and a goody bag featuring a smart watch and a trophy.
We were delighted with the outcomes and were so impressed by the thoughtful word choices and creativity shown by all the children that we decided to hold our own internal competition as well. A huge congratulations to:
Year 3 – Phoebe (Sycamore), Eloise (Redwood), and Josh (Larch).
Year 4 – Grace (Aspen), Theo (Magnolia) and Aidan (Juniper).
Year 5 Namvy (Mulberry), Evie (Spruce) and Rayan (Cedar)
Year 6 – Orla (Rowan), Olive (Alder) and Evie (Hazel).
As you can imagine, it was extremely difficult for teachers to choose a winner, so every class received 30 green points in recognition of their incredible efforts. We hope this has inspired a love of poetry and ignited a passion for writing in all of our pupils.
