Mental Health & Wellbeing Support

At HWPS we understand that children can only achieve their best when they feel safe, happy and secure. We work hard to ensure our children's pastoral needs are considered as carefully as their academic needs. At HWPS we have a strong pastoral support team working to help our pupils and their families.

ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support Assistant) - Mrs Hope

Mrs Hope helps children who may be facing life challenges which are detracting from their ability to engage with learning.  Chidren in our school are supported to understand and regulate their own emotions whilst also respecting and learning to understand the feelings of those around them.

Pastoral Support Worker - Mrs Lane

Mrs Lane works alongside teaching staff, parents and pupils; providing 1:1 support to specific pupils. The underpinning purpose is to ensure that every pupil achieves their potential through the provision of targeted support and intervention contributing to all aspects of pupils’ well-being and achievement. Mrs Lane's role  involves a mixture of dealing with parents, intervention groups, supporting home learning in addition to dealing with pupils’ behavioural and attendance issues.

Home School Link Worker

Home School Link Workers (HSLW) work within schools to support families and encourage all children to enjoy school and feel happy and secure.

The Role of a HSLW

• Offering support in school term time

• Supporting parents/carers and families

• Improve attendance and punctuality

• Promoting positive behaviour

Our HSLW works in partnership with parents/carers, schools and other agencies to support families aiming to reduce current stressful situations and prevent future difficulties. The work aims to ensure that all children enjoy school and are happy and secure. It may be that school staff ask the HSLW to make contact with families.

Our HSLW can help by providing:

• One to one support, a listening ear and advice

• Signposting to other agencies eg. information of local services and community activities

• Support groups for parents/carers.

Who can the HSLW help?

• Parents/carers faced with behavioural issues with their children.

• Families who are experiencing change, such as parental separation or bereavement.

• Parents/carers to improve attendance and punctuality.

• Families impacted by issues such as illness, domestic violence, disability and financial difficulties.

• Those needing information on local services and community activities.

• Parents needing help completing forms and documentation, for example benefit applications.

• Children who are experiencing difficult times or are withdrawn or anxious.
